Cookstown-based business TES, reached lofty heights recently as the company was requested to present an award at the “WaterAid 6 Peaks Challenge”. The Awards ceremony at the Dromhall Hotel in Killarney, Co. Kerry, which marked the final leg of the gruelling 72 hour charity challenge saw TES present the Slieve Donard Award for Best Individual Effort.
The 6 Peaks Challenge, an annual charity event organised by WaterAid requires participating teams to climb the summits of the 6 highest mountain peaks throughout the UK and Ireland – within 72 hours.
The event which took place earlier this month is in its 10th year and an estimated £80,000 was raised to provide clean water, sanitation and hygiene education to thousands of people in developing countries throughout the world.
Local business TES sponsored the Slieve Donard in Co. Down, the only N. Irish mountain in the challenge as it was a key opportunity to pledge support for the charity.
TES Director Brian Taylor said “As a company that specialises in designing and building water and wastewater treatment facilities, we felt it was fitting for TES to support WaterAid’s 6 Peaks Challenge as the money raised will bring much needed clean water and sanitation to thousands of people”. As someone who has witnessed communities without access to water and sanitary provisions in his business travels, Taylor added, “something as fundamental as water should not be taken for granted. It is a daily struggle for many communities throughout the world and we are delighted to support WaterAid’s efforts”.
Speaking on behalf of WaterAid, Business Development Manager, Jackie Sedgewick extended her thanks to TES. ”Without the support of companies such as TES, WaterAid would face an insurmountable challenge to raise much needed funds to provide water for the world’s poorest people”.
